AMD, short for Advanced Micro Devices, is one of two major x86 processor (CPU) manufacturers together with Intel. The company was founded in 1969 and was licensed as a second-party 8080, 8085, and 8086 supplier in the late 1970s.
In 2006, AMD acquired ATI Technologies and its Radeon graphics processor (GPU) brand, making AMD a key competitor of Nvidia in the GPU industry.
