Gigabyte offers two graphics card models based on AMD’s flagship Radeon RX 7900 XTX GPU, including a premium Aorus Elite and the Gigabyte Radeon RX 7900 XTX Gaming OC.

The Gaming OC version of the RX 7900 XTX comes with a smaller (or more accurately, less oversized) cooler compared to the Aorus model and other variants like the PowerColor Red Devil. It also ships with a modest factory overclock. It also uses the standard dual 8-pin power configuration as opposed to some of the more expensive XTX cards.

gigabyte gaming 7900 xtxThe specs of the Gigabyte Radeon RX 7900 XTX Gaming OC are largely in line with the MBA (Made by AMD) reference design. Its display output options are a bit different, however, with dual HDMI 2.1 outputs instead of one but no USB Type-C port.

Additionally, the card offers a minor factory overclock. The game clock, which is the clock rate you can expect while gaming, is increased to 2330 MHz compared to the reference 2300 MHz – or about 1.3 % in OC mode.

In terms of overclocking by the user, the Gigabyte RX 7900 XTX Gaming OC might be somewhat limited by its standard 8-pin power connector configuration. Some of its competitors, like the ASRock Phantom Gaming RX 7900 XTX and MSI Gaming Trio cards, feature triple 8-pin connectors, which is otherwise more common on more expensive models.

Power consumption should only be marginally affected when running the card in OC mode, but Gigabyte has upped the recommended power supply capacity to 850 W (AMD’s recommendation for the reference model is 800 W). As is common with high-end GPUs, the RX 7900 XTX Gaming OC also features a dual BIOS accompanied by a physical switch that enables the user to switch between OC (default) and Silent modes.

Cooling Solution

Gigabyte’s long-running ‘Gaming’-designated graphics cards often use a more basic type of cooler that doesn’t reflect too heavily on the cards’ price tags. The RX 7900 XTX Gaming OC is no exception, but due to the requirements of the flagship Navi 31 XTX GPU, it is still relatively large and complex.

There are three 100mm fans in total, of which the central fan spins in the opposite direction to reduce noise and turbulence. When the card is idle or draws little power, the fans come to a complete stop, meaning that the card is effectively silent. Underneath the fans is a large heatpipe and vapor chamber solution that is in contact with the GPU itself as well as the 24 GB of GDDR6 VRAM.

gaming oc coolerSince this is a cost-effective variant of the Radeon RX 7900 XTX, there are fewer RGB effects than on the Aorus model and other more expensive cards. However, the Gigabyte logo on top of the card is RGB-lit and can be synchronized with other parts using the Control Center app.

As for the physical dimensions, the card is longer than the reference model at 331 mm (13 in) but is not as wide as many other variations of the card. It will only occupy slightly more than two expansion slots.
