The Zotac RTX 4090 AMP Extreme AIRO has a boost clock speed of 2580 MHz (compared to 2520 MHz for the Founder’s Edition). Like all other graphics cards with the same GPU, it features 16384 CUDA Cores, 512 4th generation Tensor Cores for DLSS 3.0 AI image upscaling, and 128 3rd generation RT cores for ray tracing. The VRAM configuration includes 24GB of GDDR6X memory running at 21 Gbps, and a 384-bit memory interface.
Zotac’s flagship card features 24+4 power phases and consumes 450W of power which is why Zotac recommends using a 1000W power supply unit (higher than Nvidia’s recommended 850W). It requires a 16-pin power connector and an adapter is included in the box if you are using an older PSU.
For video output, the card features a single HDMI 2.1a port and three DisplayPort 1.4a ports. You can use all of them at the same time, and the maximum supported digital resolution is 7680×4320.
Design
The Zotac RTX 4090 AMP Extreme AIRO is a very large graphics card. It uses the IceStorm 3.0 cooler with three counter-rotating 110mm fans. Anti-vibration pads are installed to minimize the noise of the fans and allow the card to run silently. It has a fan stop feature, so the fans do not spin until the GPU hits a certain temperature.
Zotac has gone with a rounded design rather than an industrial one, and there is RGB lighting around the shroud and the side. The Zotac Gaming branding and logo light up as well for a total of five RGB lighting zones. The lighting and fan speeds can be customized in Zotac’s IceStorm 3.0 software.
Zotac includes a BIOS switch allowing users to switch between profiles. It does require a restart, so it is not instant, but it is still a nice feature to have. The card also has a die-cast metal backplate with cutouts for better heat dissipation and added rigidity. Since this is a large graphics card, Zotac has included a support bracket in the box which will prevent GPU sag.
The Zotac RTX 4090 AMP Extreme AIRO has a vapor chamber, a 30% thicker heatsink compared to the previous generation, and 9 copper heat pipes for cooling the GPU and VRAM. Zotac has opted for an open design allowing trapped heat to be dissipated from every side of the card.
