Aorus is Gigabyte’s premium gaming brand, but the motherboard segment normally includes Aorus-branded motherboards ranging from mainstream gaming all the way up to ultra-premium products. The X570 Aorus Xtreme clearly belongs in the latter category and comes with a wide range of high-end features including a 16-phase digital VRM and support for 10 Gbit Ethernet. It also comes in the larger E-ATX form factor and as such will not fit in more compact cases.
X570 Aorus Xtreme Key Features
Since it’s based on AMD’s X570 chipset, the Aorus Xtreme supports AMD Ryzen CPUs up to the 3rd generation. It is also the first chipset to natively support PCI Express 4.0, which greatly improves internal transfer rates for PCIe-attached components such as SSDs and graphics cards that support the interface.
Being a premium-class motherboard (comparable with e.g. the MSI Godlike) on an already quite demanding platform, the X570 Xtreme has been equipped with power delivery components that should satisfy most potential Ryzen 7/9 gen-3 overclockers. An Infineon PWM controller provides a total of 16 phases for vCore and SOC, using Infineon TDA21472 Power Stage MOSFETs capable of delivering 70 amps of power per phase, for a total of 1120 amps.
In terms of storage, the board has room for up to three PCIe 4.0 M.2 solid state drives that will be hidden below the included heatsinks/Thermal Guards. External connectivity includes USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C headers for both front and rear. The motherboard can hold up to 128 GB of DDR4 RAM (dual-channel) in four slots, with speeds up to 4400 MHz.
Wired networking is handled by an Aquantia 10GbE LAN (+1GbE LAN) module. If you need a wireless connection, this is also included in the form of an Intel module that offers speeds up to WiFi 6 802.11ax
As can also be expected from an expensive, high-end motherboard these days, the Aorus X570 Xtreme is equipped with on-board RGB lighting as well as two addressable RGB LED strip headers.

What sets the Gigabyte Aorus motherboards apart are the quality of the power delivery components, number of interfaces/ports and, of course, design and cooling capabilities. The Aorus Master is a slightly trimmed down variant of the Xtreme in the standard ATX form factor (versus E-ATX), whereas the Pro and Ultra X570 also share many features. In spite of its name, the Aorus Elite is the entry-level motherboard in the series and lacks SLI support.
There are also variations of the “mid-range” Aorus boards that include a Wi-Fi module, such as the Pro WiFi.
So often Gigabyte motherboards have got close without quite solving their issues in recent times that when we saw the efforts they had gone to so as to bring you a motherboard that is absolutely worthy of the Xtreme name we had to take the unprecedented step of giving them an award in a preview.
Seriously, it’s hardly like I was going to say the build quality is reasonable. It’s phenomenal is what it is. Everything is armoured and reinforced for reliability and performance. Every choke, every capacitor, every connection, is as good as they get
