The Asus ROG Strix LC RTX 4090 OC Edition features an all-in-one (AIO) liquid cooler and a 240mm radiator. As it’s based on the top-tier Nvidia GPU from 2022/2023, the card is aimed at high-end builds and for those who want a liquid-cooled RTX 4090 without having to build using a custom loop and water block.
Since this is a liquid-cooled card, it should offer lower noise and temperature levels. This means better performance when under load and more overclocking headroom compared to typical air-cooled variants.
Under the hood, it is an RTX 4090, with the same 16,384 CUDA cores and 24GB of GDDR6X VRAM as other cards with the same GPU. The same is true for its 512 Tensor Cores, which enabled DLSS 3.0 AI image upscaling, and 128 RT Cores for ray tracing.
What differs from most other RTX 4090s – other than the AIO cooler – is the rather high boost clock speed of 2640 MHz (OC mode), a 5% increase over the default boost clock. The card offers a dual BIOS solution, with an OC and Silent mode that can be selected via a physical switch at the back of the card.
Design
Even though the ASUS ROG Strix LC RTX 4090 OC Edition features an AIO liquid cooler, it also has a blower-style fan on the shroud. So it does not completely rely on the radiator fans to keep the card cool. This style enables a compact form factor which is ideal for smaller PC builds. It is however slightly larger than some of its competitors.
Not only do the radiator fans have RGB but the GPU shroud has lights too, as does the ASUS logo. Asus has designed a custom water block that not only cools the GPU die but the GDDR6X memory as well. The added blower-style fan further helps to dissipate heat.
Water moves to and from the GPU and the radiator via 560mm tubing with black sleeves. The cables for the fans are housed inside the tubes to hide them from sight and create a much cleaner build. Like other premium graphics cards, the Strix LC RTX 4090 OC Edition has a backplate for better heat dissipation and rigidity. Asus has also added an onboard switch that allows you to switch between silent and performance modes, which changes the fan profiles.
You will need a single 16-pin power connector to power the graphics card. ASUS includes an adapter for older PSUs, but using a native cable is recommended.
