Lian Li Refreshes SFX Lineup with ATX 3.1 SP V2 Series

Lian Li has officially launched the SP V2 series, the second generation of the company’s SFX power supplies that addresses multiple pain points from the original lineup while bringing the small form factor market up to ATX 3.1 standards. The new series includes 750W and 850W models in black or white finishes.

What’s New in V2?

The most significant upgrade is compliance with ATX 3.1 and SFX12V 4.0 specifications, bringing the updated 12V-2×6 connector to replace the GPU-melting 12VHPWR standard. This is particularly relevant given the issues that plagued early 12VHPWR implementations, although even the updated variant isn’t good enough.

According to Lian Li’s product page, both models maintain their compact 125 × 100 × 63.5 mm dimensions, perfect for space-constrained builds. The units are fully modular with embossed cables designed to resist tangling, a small but appreciated QoL improvement over standard flat cables.

There’s one notable limitation that sets these units apart from their full-sized ATX counterparts: the 12V-2×6 connector is rated for 450W continuous power rather than the 600W capability found on many ATX 3.1 units. This isn’t necessarily a dealbreaker – 450W is more than enough for any mid-range graphics cards that would realistically be paired with an SFX power supply, including the RTX 5070 Ti.

The 750W and 850W models otherwise very similar in specifications. Both units ship with identical cable sets: one 24-pin ATX, two 8-pin EPS connectors, two 6+2 pin PCIe connectors, the 450W-rated 12V-2×6 connector, seven SATA power connectors, and a single Molex for legacy hardware.

The original SP series was largely well received but not without issues. Early reviews, including a teardown by TechPowerup, revealed a mediocre fan and high noise levels under moderate loads. The V2 series seems to address these concerns with improved thermal design and a refined 92mm fluid dynamic bearing (FDB) fan that promises genuine zero RPM operation under light loads.

Competition in the SFX Space

The SFX power supply market has become increasingly competitive. Corsair’s SF series recently received an ATX 3.1 refresh with last year’s models. SilverStone’s Extreme 1200R Platinum SFX-L pushes the envelope with 1200W in an SFX-L form factor, though at a significantly higher price point than most competitors. Also, the Seasonic Focus SGX series continues to offer solid reliability with their SGX-650 and SGX-750 models, though they lack the newer 12V-2×6 connector.

On the plus side for Lian Li, the manufacturer has upgraded the warranty from the original 5-year coverage to a more competitive 10-year warranty, matching industry leaders like Corsair and Seasonic. The units also feature all-Japanese capacitors, and comprehensive protection circuitry including OCP, OVP, SCP, OPP, UVP, and OTP.

Lian Li hasn’t officially announced pricing for the SP V2 series, but the original SP750 launched at around $140. Given the improvements and extended warranty, a slight price increase wouldn’t be all that surprising.
