Seagate

Seagate Technology was founded in 1979 under the name Shugart Technology. The company is headquartered in Cupertino, California, and first rose to fame as the first manufacturer of 5.25-inch hard drives for IBM PCs in 1981. Seagate also created the SCSI and EDSI interfaces.

Seagate is still the market-leading hard drive manufacturer, and through the years it has gobbled up Maxtor Corporation, Samsung's hard disk division, and more recently LSI – a maker of SSD controllers.
