Intel

Often nicknamed ‘Chipzilla’, Intel (short for Integrated Electronics) is one of the most well-known names in the electronics industry. This US-based multinational corporation was founded in 1968 by Gordon Moore (chemist and physicist) and Robert Noyce (physicist and co-inventor of the integrated circuit).

Intel is best known as the manufacturer of the Pentium, Core and Xeon lines of CPUs (microprocessors), but also manufactures solid state drives, motherboards, network cards, and other computer parts. Intel’s main competitor in the processor space is AMD (Advanced Micro Devices), which was founded only a year later, in 1969.
